Theron is the father of a young boy who will soon enter preschool. As he looks ahead to his son’s education, he wants the option of a school like Ascent Classical Academy Flatirons.
When he appeared before the Boulder Valley School District Board of Education to make his case, Theron found that a largely homogenous group of board members and protestors were trying to block him and other minority families from having a choice in their children’s education.
The moment felt all too familiar. As an African-American well-versed in both classical and modern history, Theron had seen this before. And he had to say something.
